*CT exclusive* Postal 10th Anniversary Feature
Ten years ago, it finally happened. The game that still makes bible thumping Christians explode in an immense mushroom cloud of religious fervor has fallen to us from the heavens.
During the time of ninjas ripping off heads, the height of blood and gore was at its peak.
Postal presented us with hemoglobin content that Mortal Kombat couldn't touch. Even the hijinks of the Night Trap are nothing compared to the balls out psychopathic killing spree of Postal.
For the handful who may not know what I'm rambling on about, allow me to elaborate.
The main character goes the name of "Postal Dude". One day Postal Dude decides everyone is out to get him and well... he goes postal.
He believes everyone in town has been infected with some sort of virus that makes them all psychopathic killers; this is where paranoia can be turned into fun!
The game starts out with Postal Dude standing in front of his house armed to the teeth!
As you move along surreal landscape, you run into men, women. It doesn't matter if they're shooting at you or not, fill 'em full of lead.
Sounds like pointless killing? Far from it, Postal does have quite an involved plot. Fortunately, about all you'll be able to decipher for certain is that you must kill everyone. The question of whether it's Postal Dude who's crazy or everyone else is even debatable right up until the mind-twisting finale.
You do get tiny glimpses into the elaborate scenario through the entries from Postal Dude's diary, which are displayed between levels. Included are phrases like, "The earth is hungry. Its heart throbs and demands cleansing. The earth is also thirsty."
I won't lie to you guys; I have a small tear running down my cheek; beautiful isn't it?
But, what about all this gore?
You've fired enough lead in your prey? Letting them finally slump to the ground? Now watch them crawl around ground groaning in agony, uttering, "Kill me now!" and "I can't breathe! I can't see anything!"
But Postal Dude is a bit of a poet himself, as you could tell from his diary, he also master of one-liners: "Going... going... gone!" and oldengineer's personal favorite, "Awwwwwww, did that hurt?"
Yes, ten years ago this happened! Thanks to Running With Scissors.
Back in January 1996 development of Postal began. By March of 1997 Running With Scissors announced Postal, and in April of the very same year all hell broke lose world wide when Postal hit!
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Postal, when I received Vince Desi's email asking for everyone just to give a short quote, a smile broke on my face, from ear to ear, as memories of this classic game filled my head.
I asked Vince Desi and Mike J if we could run this on the site and hold a contest on our forums, they gave us the go ahead.
So as you are reading this over, keep in mind why we are doing this.
Postal one of the most under-rated games of all times. It changed what a first person shooter could be, it changes the same cookie cutter format we are used to, and replaced it with a game that everyone always wanted, but no one had the galls to do, except for Running With Scissors.
With the add-on of POSTAL: SPECIAL DELIVERY, the follow up title of Postal 2, in October 18 2006, Running With Scissors announces the development of Postal 3 for the PC and Xbox 360.
We can't forget the amazing title that brought us to this point in the first place.
On behalf of ConsoleTECH, we would like to present Vince Desi and the rest of Running With Scissors with the ConsoleTECH Innovative Achievement Award.
We will also we will be holding a contest on our forums in which Vince Desi and Mike J will hand pick the winners!
Contest details and future interviews with Vince Desi can be found on our forums!
Here's a personal note from Vince:
"On behalf of everyone here I really thank you, and for the fans too." - Vince Desi
As Vince says, "It's always funny until someone gets hurt...and then its absolutely friggin' hysterical!"
